New future beckons for remote holiday home

The final lot in SDL Auctions Chester and North Wales’ first auction of 2018 raised the most interest during the run up to the auction and didn’t disappoint when the hammer fell.

Y Coed, Tan Lane, Ffynnongroew in Holywell is a dilapidated, single storey cottage in a wooded area in a remote location, with the only access to the property across an adjoining field, certainly offered someone the chance to develop a get-away holiday home in a beautiful part of rural Wales.

The lot was for sale for the first time in many years so there was a sense of anticipation in the auction room at Chester Racecourse on 27 February when it sold for £55,000 from a guide price of £20,000+.

Other properties that sold well at Chester Racecourse included Flat 3, 23 Belgrave Road in Colwyn Bay which sold for £31,000 from a guide price of £20,000-£25,000 and 92 Sandy Lane in Higher Kinnerton which achieved £170,000, having been offered with a guide price of £150,000+.

Edward Feather, senior valuer and auctioneer at SDL Auctions Chester and North Wales, said: “Our first Chester Racecourse auction of 2018 didn’t disappoint for both buyers and vendors with a total of £2.5m raised for the joint catalogue with the Manchester auction the following day.

“Y Coed had received huge interest before the auction so it was great to see it sell well in the auction room and conclude our auction in style.”
