Google will be launching its YouTube Go service in 130 countries after initially trialing the service in India in 2017.
YouTube Go is a more light-weight version of the popular video app when it comes to data consumption. Until now, YouTube Go had been available in India, Indonesia, Thailand and Nigeria where mobile broadband access can be slow, expensive or intermittent.

With Go, users are able to preview the video content before they commit to viewing it. In addition, they can set up data limitations for individual videos. This allows them to exert a tighter control over their data usage.
For data-hungry videos or users who prefer to view content on WiFi connections, Go lets them download and save videos to view them later.
The company added that is was looking to tailor the app to each market it will launch it in. That includes a home screen which contains popular local and relevant content as well as content available in their language. In addition, the relaunch of the service will boost overall availability of higher quality videos.
Jay Akkad, product manager for YouTube, explained:
“We’ve been working hard to build a YouTube app that works for you, with brand new features designed with your preferences, aspirations and needs in mind. We can’t wait to see what you can do with the power of YouTube in the palm of your hand.”
